The history of Palazzu Renucci
A family story since 1870
The Palazzu Renucci is one of those residences also known as the "House of the Americans".
It was built in 1870 by Nicolas RENUCCI, the eldest son of the family.
His behaviour not living up to family principles, his father forced him to leave Corsica in 1830. He then took the ship to the Americas, where he developed sugarcane cultivation and rum trading.

Ange-François Renucci
Back in Corsica after 35 years spent in Puerto Rico, Nicolas is planning the construction of the house and is having a chapel set up for his brother Ange-François RENUCCI, ordained bishop in Rome, so that he can say his daily masses there.
The consecrated chapel
The Napoléon III museum lounge
This manor house, a family inheritance passed down through generations, carefully preserves its period treasures: the consecrated chapel from the 19th century, the Corsican room with its monumental fireplace, and the sumptuous Napoleon III lounge adorned with tapestries with gold highlights.
The American, Spanish, and French flags painted on the vault of the entrance hall represent the country where Nicolas RENUCCI resided, the one he traded with, and his homeland.

In 1962, Pauline and Joseph RENUCCI, the parents of Jean the current owner, transformed the family home and created the “Grand Hotel Mare e Monti”.
Since then, Jean has preserved this magnificent family residence and its history while incorporating certain modern enhancements for greater comfort, allowing his guests to enjoy an experience that is both authentic and unique.
